
SSAA Darwin Branch present the 2026 Australia Day Pistol and Rifle Challenge
Monday 26th January 2026
Registration 8:00 am – Shoot Commencing 9:00 am Cost is $30
The event is a SPORTING one and does not involve military firearms.
NON SSAA Darwin Branch Members are welcome and encouraged to participate in this fun event.
THE EVENT CONTAINS MULTIPLE FUN CHALLENGING MATCHES IN BOTH CATEGORIES
Rules
No Sighting shots are included in the competition (sight in b4 the day)
The Rifle or pistol commenced with is to be used for entire shoot
Any Sporting style pistol is eligible
Rifle to be Centrefire 223 to 338 is eligible
Scope on rifle up to and including 12 power is eligible
Unfortunately, due NT Police requirements ONLY persons holding a CURRENT H Class Pistol license can enter pistol event
Pistol Event ALL rounds are 10 shots
Detail 1 Running Rabbit Over and back 10 shots each way 30 Metres

Falling Plates and hanging gong target 10 shots 35 metres
Detail 3
Scored Thong 10 shots Scored hits on Thong 45 metres Detail 4
Wobbling Gongs 10 shots Hits on gong 40 metres
Rifle Event ALL rounds are 10 shots

Standing Post/Kneeling Post 4 Minutes Large Gong 180 metres

Standing Post Speed! 2 Minutes Small Gong 100 metres

Sitting Supported on front bags NO rear mechanical support. Medium Gong 150 Metres Hits on gong-

Chair Sitting Snap (No Post) 5 seconds / shot 75 metres Medium Gong Hits on gong
Detail 5
Standing Snap 5 seconds/shot Scored Thong 75 metres
All Rifle will be on steel gong unless otherwise advised!
ALL Rifle challenges will be 10 shots per detail. There will be 1 round per event Detail.
Total rounds required 50.
SSAA Members are encouraged to register for the event via the Membership system by following the link on the event notice.
